Cookie policy
Last updated: 2026-05-23
This page explains what cookies and browser-local storage Oceanus uses, what they're for, and how you control them. You can change your choices at any time via the link in the footer.
What we set
Essential (always on)
oceanus_sid— your signed-in session token. Required to keep you logged in.OCEANUS_VIS— anonymous visitor identifier used to record your cookie-consent choice. Stored for one year.- CSRF and security headers (no cookie set; HTTP headers only).
Functional (consent required)
Set only after you accept this category. We use browser localStorage (not cookies) for these — they never leave your device.
mainTheme/theme— your light/dark theme choice.OCEANUS_LANG— your preferred language.- Server-side preferences (idle-timeout, default model, watchlist, default chart symbol, etc.) — stored against your account on our servers.
Analytics
Not currently in use. Reserved so the disclosure is complete if we add anonymous usage tracking in the future. Off by default; will require renewed consent at that time.
Marketing
Not currently in use. Oceanus is a research tool with no advertising or third-party marketing pixels.
Geo-aware defaults
The cookie banner adapts to your location. EU/UK visitors are asked for explicit consent (GDPR / UK GDPR). California visitors see an opt-out (CCPA / CPRA). Other visitors see a brief notice. We determine your jurisdiction from the country your IP address resolves to via the MaxMind GeoLite2 database; we don't share your IP with any third party for this purpose.
Consent log
When you make a choice, we record the timestamp, your jurisdiction, a one-way hash of your IP (not the raw IP), your user-agent, and the categories you accepted. The log lets us prove that consent was obtained — it isn't used for advertising or analytics.
Withdrawing consent
Click
above, untick categories, and Save. The change takes effect immediately;
we'll also delete any non-essential localStorage values we
previously stored. Essential cookies remain so you can keep using the
service.
Contact
Questions or requests under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA: contact your Oceanus administrator (this is an invite-only, internally hosted application — there is no public support channel).
